Richland Co. (WACH)--The freezing temperatures Saturday did not stop many brave people from jumping into cold water.
The ninth annual Polar Bear Plunge took place at Lake Carolina's Sunset Park. Hundreds of participants jumped into the chilly water.
Money raised from the event went to the Children's Charities of the Midlands; a 501c3 organization that improves the health, welfare and education of children.
The event also had music, pizza, prizes, and awards for people who came out.
Jumpers like Edgardo Legrande say it was worth it.
"It was pretty cold," Legrande said. "You feel a sting in there. It was much colder than last year. The atmosphere, the fun, people smiling. It is a lot of fun and it is all for the kids."
