COLUMBIA (WACH, AP) -- Interstate 26 in Calhoun County is back open after a fatal multi-vehicle crash that took place Thursday morning near the westbound 121 mile marker.
Sgt. Kelly Hughes with the South Carolina Highway Patrol says three tractor-trailers, a car and a minivan collided, killing one and sending four others to the hospital.
One of the tractor-trailers jack-knifed and two overturned blocking the roadway.
One of the tractor trailers was carrying batteries which leaked a substance onto the roadways, Hazmat and DHEC officials were called in to clean up that spill before the vehicles could be moved.
Traffic is currently being detoured, all traffic should take exit 129 and make a right towards U-S 21, where traffic will then be able t re-enter the interstate at exit 119.
Authorities are still investigating the cause of the crash.
The identities of those involved have not been released.
