WEST COLUMBIA, S.C. (WACH) -- An Irmo man is in the hospital after being shot for allegedly trying to run over two West Columbia police officers early Thursday morning.
According to the West Columbia Police Department, Hunter A. Reeser, 22, drove at the two officers as they were trying to pull over Reeser for driving between lanes of traffic.
Police say around 2 a.m. Officers Jason Corley and Brian McDowell saw a car speeding down Meeting Street. The driver pulled into the parking lot of What-a-Burger on Meeting Street, then sped through the parking lot and struck the building and fence.
Officers say Reeser then turned his car around and drove toward the officers who both shot at the car, striking Reeser in the head. The suspect's car then hit McDowell, who was standing behind the door of his police car.
A third officer, Sal Castellano, later saw Reeser a few blocks away, chased him down, tasered and arrested him.
Reeser was taken to Palmetto Richland Hospital with a bullet wound to his head.
