The mayor of the Union County town of Jonesville has been arrested and charged with soliciting for prostitution.

UNION, S.C. (AP) -- The mayor of the Union County town of Jonesville has been arrested and charged with soliciting for prostitution.

A sheriff's statement says Ernest B. Moore Jr. was arrested by deputies Thursday.

The statement from the sheriff's office says an undercover operative advised officers of a meeting arranged with Moore. The statement says officers set up audio and video equipment to record the meeting.

Investigators say Moore was arrested after he offered to pay for a sex act.

Moore has been mayor since 2008.

It was not clear if he has an attorney.
