Kenny Miles shooting not an armed robbery, RCSD continues to investigate

Reports that former USC runningback Kenny Miles being involved in an armed robbery are untrue.

COLUMBIA (WACH) â??According to the Richland County Sheriffâ??s Department, reports that former USC running back Kenny Miles being involved in an unarmed robbery are untrue.

â??The only thing that can be verified is that Kenny was shot in the arm yesterday.â?? Said Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott.

â??Iâ??m not real happy with the resources and time weâ??ve spent on this case chasing false leads and going in a direction that wasnâ??t the truth; weâ??ve wasted a lot of time, man power and resources at the Richland County Sheriffâ??s Department that wasnâ??t necessary. But we are going to continue to investigate to find out what really happened.â??

Miles was shot in the arm Monday evening near an Irmo business park. Initial reports that Miles was involved in an unarmed robbery have turned out to be inaccurate, Lott says.

â??The purpose of this press conference is to let the community know that we do not have an armed robber, to my knowledge, running around in the Dutch Fork or St. Andrews area that committed a robbery and shot Kenny Miles.â??
