COLUMBIA (WACH) - It was kick off time today, but not for a football game.
The Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics South Carolina kick-off event was at the State House this morning.
Officers from around the state and students from the South Carolina School for the Deaf and Blind were all onhand
The run is a fundraiser specifically for the Special Olympics.
"Most of us got into the Law Enforcement Torch Run because we thought we could help these athletes. But what we didn't realize is what we get back from the athletes. It's truly moving to see them grow socially, to be with like people of themselves and it's just amazing." says Sergeant Mike Still from the State Transport Police.
In 2013, the Law Enforcement Torch Run raised $605,000.
The group hopes to real an even higher goal this year.
