COLUMBIA (WACH) - The Richland County Sheriff's Department and the City of Columbia Police Department have joined forces to help combat gangs in the capital city.
The law enforcement agencies signed an agreement Friday afternoon to combing their gang task force units into one team.
"We both realize that if we put both our gang units together we can be much more effective and that's what we are doing today we are formalizing an agreement to combines the two gang units from Richland County Sheriffs Department and City of Columbia into one unit," said Sheriff Leon Lott.
Lott said last summer there was a lot of gang related crime across the county.
He hopes that this move can help crack down on gang activity.
