LCSD continue to investigate officer-involved shooting on Devil's Backbone Road


LEXINGTON COUNTY, S.C. (WACH)-- The Lexington County Sheriff's Department continues to investigate the officer-involved shooting that occurred Monday afternoon.

According to the department, at approximately 4:20 PM a deputy was flagged down by a citizen about a suspicious person.

The deputy made contact with the suspicious person on the 2100 block of Devil's Backbone Road and after a brief encounter, that person pointed a handgun at the deputy.

The deputy then fired his service weapon and the man fled into the woods.

A perimeter was set and a K-9 unit is attempting to track down the man.

He is described as a black male in dark clothing standing about five feet ten or eleven inches with a medium build.

At this time it is unknown if the man was struck by the bullet.

Police consider this man to be armed and dangerous to the community.
