Lexington Councilman Danny Frazier announces resignation

LEXINGTON (WACH) â?? Lexington councilman Danny Frazier announced his resignation on Thursday, January 9th.

â??I am proud to leave behind a legacy of town expansion, economic development, and true public service,â?? said Frazier in a letter to Lexington County Mayor Steve MacDougall and Governor Nikki Haley.

Frazier says that he moved his family to a new home located just outside of the limits of the Town of Lexington and is now precluded by Statute from completing his term in office

While Frazier is saddened that he is no longer able to represent his constituents as a council member, he looks forward to serving the citizens in another capacity.

"I'm sad to see him going," said Ted Stambolitis, Town Councilman.

In October, WACH Fox talked to then Mayoral candidate Steve MacDougall about Frazierâ??s role in a high stakes gambling operation.

"It's time to get rid of that factor that we had in Lexington that held us down and made us look so bad and get away from the criminal investigations, the criminal probes," Said MacDougall.

That case is still under investigation.

Frazier entered the Council in March 2005 and his term was set to expire in November 2015.

Frazier wishes the other Council members the very best for the future.

"It presents an opportunity for Lexington to move forward," said Todd Shevchick, Town Councilman

The Town of Lexington will be holding a special election held on Tuesday, April 8, 2013 to fill the seat left vacant by Frazier.
