Lexington man arrested for striking student at Midlands school
LEXINGTON COUNTY, SC (WACH) – A Lexington man who works for a company contracted by Gray Collegiate Academy to help students prepare for the SAT has been arrested after investigators said he struck a student, according to the Lexington County Sheriff's Department.
Fifty-year-old Homer Jonathan Reed Wilson is charged with third-degree assault and battery for hitting a student on the head, according to an arrest warrant.
“Detectives interviewed one witness who saw the incident in the school gym last month,” Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon said. “They talked with another person who heard a ‘slap sound’ as the incident occurred.”
Wilson turned himself into authorities Tuesday morning and was released from the Lexington County Detention Center later that day. A judge set his bond at $1,087.50.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing, according to Koon.
Third-degree assault and battery is a misdemeanor punishable by a fine of up to $500 or up to 30 days in jail.
