      Lexington man found dead after police chase

      A Lexington man is dead after a high speed chase early Monday.

      LEXINGTON, SC (WACH) - A Lexington man is dead after a high speed chase early Monday.

      Lexington County Sheriff James Metts said Ellis Scarborough, 46, of Lexington was wanted on harges of assaulting a 47-year-old woman at a home on Clermont Lakes Drive, causing severe injuries.

      The assault was reported to Lexington County deputies. When they responded to the home, deputies passed Scarborough driving on Clermont Lakes Drive. When a deputy tried to pull him over, he refused to stop. A chase began and Scarborough wrecked on Founders Road. The officer involved in the pursuit was not involved in the crash.

      The crash is still under investigation by the Highway Patrol and the Lexington County Coroner's Office.
