CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) -- Charleston's new performing arts center has a bigger-than-life price tag of $142 million. So it seems only fitting that a model of the structure is life-size as well.
On Thursday, reporters are scheduled to see a life-size model of a portion of the new Gaillard Center being built in the heart of the city's historic district.
The model is 30 feet high and 20 feet wide and features many of the materials that will be part of the building when it opens in 2015.
The center, being built on the site of the old Gaillard Municipal Auditorium, will include a new performance hall, convention ballroom, banquet space, outdoor gardens and space for city offices. It will be a key venue for the Spoleto Festival USA.
