Local bar giving dogs something to bark about

COLUMBIA (WACH) - A local bar in downtown Columbia is giving dogs something to bark about.

World of Beer in The Vista will be hosting Yappy Hour for dogs and their owners once a month starting in January, according to Tyler Pawelkop.

The bar, which is a popular place for gathering with friends, watching sports, or listening to live music, has already hosted two successful Yappy Hour events; one in October and one Tuesday night.

Dogs at the event were treated to free, homemade dog treats.

Owners had the opportunity to purchase unique items including homemade holiday dog treats, apparel and "Bowser Beer for Dogs."

Those in attendance Tuesday could buy $1 raffle tickets for a chance to win items from Pupcakes, a dog boutique in Five Points. Proceeds from the raffle went to benefit Pet's Inc., an animal rescue center in West Columbia.

Pawelkop says a previous Yappy Hour helped support Pawmetto Lifeline, and World of Beer especially enjoys helping local businesses.

World of Beer will not have an event in December, but will kick start Yappy Hour again in 2013.
