Lugoff couple charged in child sex abuse case
KERSHAW COUNTY, SC (WACH) - A disturbing case of child sex abuse is under investigation in Kershaw County.
Kershaw County Sheriff's investigators arrested Michael Browning, 36, and his wife Kelly Browning, 34, both of Lugoff, on Monday after receiving information that Michael Browning sexually abused two young children for several years.
Investigators believe Kelly Browning knew of the abuse over six years ago and did nothing about it.
Michael Browning allegedly admitted to the wrongdoing during an interview with investigators.
Sheriff Jim Matthews refers to the case as being "disturbing" and "especially troubling."
According to the sheriff's office, deputies responded to a domestic disturbance call on Monday, June 11 where one of the children at the scene told them they had been touched inappropriately and forced into sexual acts with Michael Browning. A second child made similar claims, and a forensic interview was arranged for both children.
Michael and Kelly Browning are both facing charges in the case and are awaiting a bond hearing at the Kershaw County Detention Center.
