Rock Hill man accused of killing his mother and neighbor died in the custory of the Sheriff's office

YORK, S.C. (AP) -- A Rock Hill man accused of killing his mother and a neighbor has died in the custody of the York County Sheriff's Office.

Authorities say 34-year-old Joshua Grose was pronounced dead about 3 a.m. Sunday at Piedmont Medical Center, after repeatedly hurting himself in jail. An autopsy is expected Monday.

Sheriff's spokesman Trent Faris says guards called paramedics after finding Grose unresponsive. He says guards earlier stopped Grose from drowning himself in his jail cell toilet and put him in a restraining chair after he repeatedly hit his head against the cell wall.

Grose was accused of running over 53-year-old Sandra Thomas while trying to steal her car, then assaulting 65-year-old Sandra Grose. Both were found dead in their yards Friday. A 60-year-old man was taken to the hospital.
