Man assaults female park ranger before fleeing area, CPD investigates


Columbia, S.C. (WACH)-- The Columbia Police Department is currently searching for a man accused of assaulting a female park ranger Wednesday.

The incident happened around 11 a.m. at 4122 River Drive after the ranger told the man that fishing was prohibited at that location.

The victim stated that the man became agitated and pushed her into rocks causing her to injure her back.

A witness was nearby and tried to help, but the suspect allegedly threw the man's glasses into the water before running away from the scene.

The park ranger was taken to a local hospital for her non-life threatening injuries. No one else was physically hurt during the incident.

At this time, the description of the male suspect is limited.

Officers as well a K9 unit continue to investigate.
