Man charged in Bennettsville murder, search still on for eight-year-old

MARLBORO COUNTY, S.C. (WACH) -- An arrest has been made in the murder of Ella Lowery and the disappearance of Iyana Lowery.

Jejauncey Fernando Harrington, 32, was charged with murder and kidnapping, as well as possession of a weapon during a violent crime in both incidents. The murder took place on May 5, and Iyana has been missing since the stabbing.

"This is a major break in this case, but there is still much work to do as the investigation is ongoing," Marlboro County Sheriff Charles Lemon said, adding, "We are keeping our focus on finding Iyana Lowery and bringing her home to her family. That's a continuing priority for everyone that's been a part of this investigation."

Harrington's murder charge is a felony and is punishable by a minimum of 30 years in prison or death. In addition. the possession of a weapon during a violent crime charge carries a penalty of five years. The kidnapping charge is also a felony, with a penalty of up to 30 years in prison.
