Corey Register, 27, died Tuesday from injuries he recieved crashing into a tree on June 30.
According to Lexington Police, officers attempted to stop Register for suspicion of drunk driving and not wearing a seatbelt.
At first, Register appeard to stop pulling into a McDonalds on Columbia Avenue, but then drove onto West Main Street.
Police say they continued to follow Register onto Park Road where Register accelerated to a high rate of speed, left the roadway and struck a tree.
Register was taken to Richland Memorial Hospital.
Lexington Police say Register was driving under suspension for various violations at the time of the incident.
The collision remains under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol MAIT team.
