Man hurt in crash while fleeing deputies

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WACH/AP) -- Richland County sheriff's deputies say a man has been arrested after he hit two cars and crashed into a tree after a chase.

Lt. Curtis Wilson said deputies saw the man make a drug transaction around noon Tuesday. Wilson said when deputies tried to stop the man, he drove away.

The man hit a sheriff's department vehicle and another vehicle and then hit a tree.

The man was taken to a hospital for treatment of his injuries. Deputies say the man is in serious condition and will face several charges once he is released from the hospital.

A deputy and the person driving the third vehicle were taken to a hospital for injuries that did not appear to be serious.

Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott plans to release more details in this case at a press briefing Wednesday afternoon.
