WEST COLUMBIA, SC (WACH) - A suspect has been arrested in a West Columbia gun shop robbery.
Robert Fletcher Herbert, 41, was arrested on several charges including burglary, larceny, and illegal possession of a firearm, according to the Lexington County Sheriff's Department.
According to Sheriff James R. Metts, Herbert stole a black 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche pickup truck after breaking into Bowen's Auto Body and Paint on Emanuel Church Road between 12 a.m. and 7 a.m. on March 27.
Herbert drove the truck through the back door of S&R Gun Sales, which is also on Emanuel Church Road, around 2 a.m. on March 29. He is accused of stealing eight handguns worth approximately $4,220 from the business.
According to the incident report, pistols and revolvers were missing from the store.
Detectives arrested Herbert at his home after executing a search warrant of his home on April 9 where they found an ignition key that matched the key used to start the Avalanche that was reported stolen, according to Metts. Detectives also found one Brother Intellifax facsimile machine and one Stanley Jumpox that were reported stolen from the auto body shop.
Herbert was released from the Lexington County Detention Center Sunday after posting bail totaling $87,130.
