Marine charged with murder to be in court

A Marine who fled to Mexico shortly before he was charged with killing a pregnant colleague in North Carolina is scheduled to make his first court appearance.

Cpl. Cesar Laurean was charged with first-degree murder after 20-year-old Lance Cpl. Maria Lauterbach's remains were found buried in a fire pit behind the home he shared with his wife and daughter in Jacksonville.

Investigators believe the 22-year-old Laurean fled just hours before Lauterbach's charred remains were found in January 2008.

Mexican authorities captured Laurean just over a year ago in the small town of Tacambaro, Mexico.

Laurean was taken to the Onslow County jail on Friday evening.

District Attorney Dewey Hudson said Laurean is scheduled to appear in court on Monday.
