CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) -- The Medical University of South Carolina wants to make sure Charleston-area residents are ready for the 2013 Atlantic hurricane season.
The university is scheduled to hold a hurricane awareness event on Wednesday.
The idea is to give people information they can use to prepare for and recover from any hurricane that might strike the South Carolina coast.
Organizations including the Red Cross are on hand to help families make their hurricane plans. There's also a representative of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
NOAA is predicting an above-average hurricane season with as many as 18 named storms, of which as many as 10 could become hurricanes with winds of 74 mph.
