Midlands closings ahead of possible Hurricane Irma hit, football games moved, rescheduled
COLUMBIA, SC (WACH) - Multiple businesses, governmental agencies, schools and universities are beginning to announce closings in preparation for a possible Hurricane Irma hit.

Columbia International University closed Monday. Only essential staff needed.
Remington College will be closed on Monday.
American Legion Post Five in Sumter County meeting postponed Monday. Will be rescheduled for a later date.
South Carolina State University will close 5 PM Thursday. All residents halls must be evacuated by noon Friday. Students who will be remaining on campus are required to take shelter at the on-campus emergency shelter, Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center. SHM will begin taking shelter at noon on Sunday and must be in the shelter by 4 PM.
Voorhees College will cancel all classes on Friday. The campus will close on Saturday at 8 AM until further notice. All students remaining on campus will follow the brunch dining schedule beginning Friday.
MUSC University will be closed on Friday and the official university business is canceled including all classes and clinical rotations. As of the writing of this article it has not been determined when normal operations will resume.
All Central Carolina Technical College campuses will be closed on Monday.
Columbia College will be closed on Monday. Dining services and residence halls will remain open.
The following school districts are closed until further notice:
- Allendale District One
- Bamberg District One and Two
- Beaufort District One
- Berkeley District One
- Charleston District One
- Colleton District One
- Dorchester District Two and Four
- Orangeburg District District Three, Four and Five
Georgetown District One is scheduled for early dismissal.
Richland School Districts One and Two have canceled school for Monday as Richland County has declared a state of emergency ahead of the impact of Hurricane Irma.
Williamsburg County School District closes all schools Monday and Tuesday due to them being converted into shelters.
Lee County School District schools will be closed on Monday and Tuesday.
The School District of Newberry County will be closed on Monday. All activities are cancelled.
Lexington County School Districts One, Two, Three, and Four have cancelled classes for Monday.
Lexington-Richland School District 5 will be closed on Monday.
All Kershaw County School District schools and offices will be closed on Monday.
Clarendon County School District Two has cancelled classes for Monday and Tuesday.
Saluda County School District schools will be closed on Monday. All meetings and athletic events scheduled for Monday are cancelled.
East Point Academy will be closed on Monday.
Fairfield County School District schools will be closed on Monday.
5 Star Academy Learning Center will be closed on Monday.
There will be a two hour delay for Sumter School District, City of Sumter and Sumter County Government Tuesday, Sept. 12.
Lexington School District Two will have two-hour delay on Tuesday.
The following have been cancelled for the City of Cayce:
- All City parks and trails will close on Sunday, September 10th at 3 PM and will remain closed through Monday.
- Monday’s trash collection is canceled and will be picked up on Wednesday. As of now, Tuesday trash collection remains on schedule.
- Cayce Municipal Court is closed on Tuesday.
The Riverbanks Zoo and Gardens will be closed on Monday.
All Richland Library locations will be closed on Monday.
The S.C. State vs. Charleston Southern football game scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 9 has been postponed. Both schools will work together to reschedule the game.
The Citadel vs. Presbyterian football game will still be played Saturday, but will be played at Presbyterian College instead of at The Citadel.
