Midlands coach raises hundreds for charity

A Midlands basketball coach presented a major donation to a charity that helps needy children on Friday night.

Glenforest School basketball coach William Knopf presented the founder of Samaritan's Feet with a check for $1,000 dollars. Knopf and students at the West Columbia school spent the last couple weeks collecting nearly 700 pairs of shoes for needy children.

Knopf walked barefoot 8 miles from Glenforest to Beltline Boulevard last week to raise awareness about Samaritan's Feet, which provides shoes to people in 53 countries. He also coached barefoot and stood outside barefoot in cold weather collecting pairs of shoes.

Knopf says they've raised $123 more dollars since the check presentation. You can still drop off shoe donations at the school until February 1st.
