COLUMBIA (WACH) â?? The Midlands couple on the crippled cruise ship is happy to be back on dry land. Trey and Kendall Love say although they could've done without the headache of the last few days, things could've been worse.
The couple was among thousands of people stuck at sea in the Gulf of Mexico on the Carnival cruise ship Triumph.
â??Probably the worst part was having to go to the bathroom in trash bags that were passed out and you know you just look at each other and say, is this really happening this cannot be our vacation,â?? said Kendall Love.
â??Overall, Iâ??d say it's not the ideal vacation, but we really saw a lot of good things as far as people pulling together,â?? said Trey Love.
The Loves were on the cruise celebrating Trey's 40th birthday with a couple of friends from Texas. Even though the party atmosphere on board quickly turned sour, they did their best to make the most of a tough time. Trey said â??a lot of times were just laying in the sun or the stars and praying and thinking about my family.â??
â??We're safe; we're alive. God protected us and I really think it could've been a lot bigger of a tragedy,â?? said Kendall.
They say Carnival is already starting to make good on its promises to the passengers. Some of their money from the trip has already been refunded.
