Midlands extreme couponer shares her shopping secrets

Hansell waits to see her total after a shopping trip.

LEXINGTON COUNTY (WACH)-- A lot of us use coupons every now and then to save a little bit of cash, but for a West Columbia woman, couponing has become a sport.

Since Joyce Hansell started couponing last year, she estimates sheâ??s saved around $20,000 in groceries.

â??When I started, it used to take me a while. But now, putting together these trips takes me less than an hour a week,â?? said Hansell.

Hansell took WACH FOX News to Shumpertâ??s IGA in Pelion to show just how much she can save. She loaded up on meat, cheese, baby formula, sodas and more.

She's donating everything from the shopping trip to local charities.

â??I donâ??t have a lot of money. Weâ??re not rich,â?? said Hansell. â??This is a way I can pay it forward to other people.â??

In the end, Hansell ended up paying a little more than $8 for nearly $130 worth of food. Thatâ??s more than 90% in savings.

Hansellâ??s couponing success is now earning her some national attention.

After watching the TLC show Extreme Couponing last year, she bet her family she could be on it.

Sheâ??ll have to collect that bet because sheâ??s being featured on the show this season.

â??Extreme Couponingâ?? premieres Monday at 10 pm on TLC. Her episode will run on June 4th.
