LEXINGTON, SC (WACH) A 34-year old Lexington woman has been arrested for what after deputies say she tried to use a good cause to line her own pockets.

Lexington County Sherff James Metts said Kelli Jean Chavis,34, of Pin Oak Drive, Lexington, held a benefit beauty pageant for Richard Culliver, but kept the proceeds for herself.

Metts said Chavis faces charges of breach of trust with fraudulent intent.

Culliver has a rare and terminal form of brain cancer. Benevolent people from all across the Midlands have lined up to grant Richard his wishes.

An arrest warrant obtained by WACH Fox News said Chavis began collecting money at a Lexington area hotel in February , saying the funds were to go towards a beauty pageant to benefit Richard's family.

The beauty pageant was held in March.

The warrant said Chavis transferred the $1875 raised from the pageant to her personal bank account. Records show Chavis used the money for food, alcoholic drinks and other personal expenses. Culliver's family had not received any funds from the fund raising event.

Chavis promised to transfer the proceeds to Richard's mother, Stephanie McMillan, via Paypal.

After she never got the funds. McMillan told deputies on May 7 that Chavis told McMillan in late April the proceeds were on the way via Paypal. McMillan said she never got the money.
