Mom charged with killing 2 kids in Pickens County

Authorities say a mother shot and killed her two children and wounded her husband in a home in Pickens County.

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- Authorities say a mother shot and killed her two children and wounded her husband in a home in Pickens County.

Deputies say 35-year-old Suzanna Simpson was found in a wrecked truck just outside her home around 6 a.m. Tuesday. Arrest warrants say she told paramedics that she had had shot her whole family.

Officers entered the home and found Simpson's 5-year-old son Sawyer and her 7-year-old daughter Carly dead. Her 34-year-old husband Michael was wounded and remains hospitalized with life-threatening injuries.

Suzanna Simpson also is at the hospital. Authorities say she told a nurse she tried to shoot herself several times, but couldn't do it.

Pickens County Sheriff Rick Clark refused to give Simpson's condition or a motive for the killings. It isn't known if she has a lawyer.
