Mom spelled upside down is WOW

COLUMBIA (WACH) - Mother's Day gets the short end of the stick sometimes. People wait until the last minute to grab some flowers or send a card, and even then it can seem obligatory at best. Well, not on my WACH! Here is your fool-proof plan to treat Mom to a weekend of fun that she will talk about for months, and remember forever. Many of these activities are inexpensive and I've mapped out a gameplan to make it easy. So gas up the car and wear comfortable shoes ... we're about to rock Mom's world!

Start off by hitting the Food Truck Rodeo at City Roots Farm Friday starting at 5:30 p.m. Food trucks from all over are there serving up your favorite dishes at a low price. It's a fun and kooky way to have dinner in a carnival like atmosphere. While you're there, talk to Mom about all the state fairs from your childhood. Thank her for all the hot dogs and cotton candy, letting you ride the rollercoaster 15 times, then taking care of you went you went home with a tummy-ache. She'll be in heaven!

Next, hit up the Greater Columbia Children's and Chamber Choir Spring Concert at the USC School of Music Recital Hall at 7:30 p.m. This is free show and Mom's love it! Little angelic voices in perfect harmony will put a smile in her heart. Again, remind her of the support she offered while you performed in church choirs or school plays.

On Saturday, you can go to A Taste of Camden at 6 p.m. at the Town Green to sample local flavors and enjoy the perfect weather. (Make sure to tell Mom you like her cooking better than anything you'll find at a restaurant) If you're on the other side of the Midlands, check out the Lexington Wine Walk on Main Street also at 6:00pm. You can enjoy the grape along with live music and hors d'ouevres. Take this opportunity to laugh about the time you broke into her liquer cabinet and drank all that peppermint schnapps.

After an evening on your feet, it's time to take a load off. The Newberry Opera House will be showing Hitchcock's classic "Rebecca" starring Laurence Olivier and Joan Fontaine. This is a great opportunity to laugh about your dating history and those ex's that your Mom knew weren't good enough for you.

Finally, on Mother's Day we love the idea of brunch at the Riverbanks Zoo and Garden. Also, Seibels House will be opening it's doors and patio for brunch overlooking their historic gardens. There are several eateries serving brunch including Blu Fin, Harper's, Liberty Tap Room and Hampton's in Sumpter. Or simply choose her favorite restaurant. Either way it's a win - win.

Finally, top it off with some classical music. The Lake Murray Symphony Orchestra will be performing at the Harbison Theater at Midlands Tech on Sunday afternoon at 3:30. This is the perfect way to cap off a lovely weekend that leaves Mom feeling relaxed, refreshed and oh, so adored.

Remember, nothing compares to a mother's love ... so be sure to wow her this, and every weekend.
