MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (AP) -- Names are surfacing as possible candidates for South Carolina's new 7th District congressional seat drawn by the General Assembly this week.
Gov. Nikki Haley is expected to get the legislation Thursday.
But legal challenges are expected to the new district in the northeastern corner of the state anchored in Horry County. The plan also must pass review by the U.S. Justice Department.
The Sun News of Myrtle Beach reports one of the names being mentioned as a candidate in the predominantly Republican district is Myrtle Beach state Rep. Alan Clemmons, who headed the state House's redistricting committee.
Clemmons says it's too early for him to be focusing on any race. State Rep. Thad Viers of Myrtle Beach has also been mentioned.
