      Natural gas line ruptures in downtown Columbia

      COLUMBIA (WACH) - Columbia Fire Department officials say a natural gas line ruptured in downtown Columbia.

      Brick Lewis, spokesman for the department, says fire crews responded around noon Thursday to the gas leak near Gervais Street and Millwood Avenue. He said sections of Gervais and Dillon Streets were closed, but reopened aroun 1 p.m.

      Several businesses were closed as a precaution.

      The Columbia Police Department and SCE&G also responded.
