Columbia, S.C. (WACH) --Officials with the SC Department of Consumer Services (SCDCA) are partnering with the SC Department of Employment and Workforce (DEW) to warn businesses about a new scam targeting them.

It is known as the "CEO Scam" and hackers typically "disguise" themselves as managerial and corporate officials to either obtain personal information or solicit monetary transfers.

Information such as W-2s and bank accounts have been requested in some instances of this scam.

Consumer Affairs are warning employees to never send any personal information, theirs or others, via email and to always call and confirm over the phone if any such information is requested.

According to the SCDCA, approximately 43,000 companies in South Carolina have provided training to their employees on cybersecurity.

To report a scam or for more information about the CEO, call SCDCA at (844) 835-5322 or visit the SCDCA's website.
