NEWBERRY (WACH) -- Newberry County deputies have arrested man they say assaulted a tow-truck operator this morning while trying to get his trailer back.
Investigators say Jason Randolph Morris, 25, wrecked his car Tuesday and his truck and its trailer were towed by Louis Wicker Wrecker Service. Morris' truck was repaired on site, but the trailer remained at the wrecker service.
Friday morning deputies say the owner saw Morris at the wrecker service and told Morris he could not get the trailer until he paid the bill for the towing. Later, the owner saw Morris with the trailer now loaded behind the vehicle near the business. When the owner confronted him, deputies say Morris hit him several times, then took the owner into the woods.
The owner told investigators he then broke free, but Morris forced the owner into a car, assaulted the owner, told him not to contact law enforcement, and then fled in a 1997 White Ford Expedition pulling the trailer.
