COLUMBIA (WACH) ?? Oak Grove Elementary school has earned the Lighthouse School status from the FranklinCovey The Leader in Me TM program.
In a school-wide assembly held at 1:15PM on Monday, March 24, 2014, Oak Grove Elementary Student Body President Chaz Adams and School Lighthouse Committee Members Kody Ashley, Uriah Goodwin, Ella Johnson, Luke Linder, Lizzie Long, Max Mariscal, Perry Jane Ricard and Nora Seigler made the announcement to students, staff and visitors.
The community began working toward Lighthouse recognition three years ago. In order to achieve this goal, they had to put a Lighthouse team in place, create a leadership environment, teach and reinforce the 7 habits work together collaboratively, have students in meaningful leadership roles, involve parents, create and hold leadership events, use student data through data notebooks and other leadership tools, and show measurable results.
Oak Grove is the third Lexington County School District One School to earn Lighthouse School status.
There are currently about 72 schools worldwide who have received Lighthouse Status including schools in Canada, Indonesia and the United States. We believe that Oak Grove Elementary becomes number 73.
Saxe Gotha Elementary earned Lighthouse School status on April 19, 2013, and Lake Murray Elementary on May 21, 2013.
Oak Grove Elementary has 693 students in prekindergarten through grade 5. The school is located at 479 Oak Drive, Lexington, SC 29073.
