Oconee nuke plant has most violations in Southeast
COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- The Oconee Nuclear Station near Seneca reported the most safety violations of any nuclear plant in the Southeast since 2000.
A Government Accountability Office report obtained by The Associated Press shows the plant reported 163 lower-level violations and 14 higher-level violations. The plant is only one of two in the Southeast with three reactors.
Lower-level violations pose very low risk, such as improper upkeep of a transformer, while higher-level violations range in significance, such as an electrical system that caused a fire.
The Catawba Nuclear Station in York County reported 98 lower-level violations and two higher-level violations. The V.C. Summer Nuclear Station in Jenkinsville reported 114 lower-level violations and one higher-level violation, while the H.B. Robinson plant near Hartsville reported 72 lower-level violations and three higher-level violations.
