October near normal, weather wise

COLUMBIA (WACH) -- October was near normal in Columbia when it comes to the weather.

The Columbia Metropolitan Airport had an average temperature of 65.0°F, which is 0.9°F above normal.

A total of 1.42 inches of rain fell which is 1.75 inches below the normal amount of 3.17 inches.

Hurricane Sandy came close to South Carolina but took a northeastward turn off the coast before making landfall in southern New Jersey as a Post-Tropical Cyclone.

Sandy allowed for cloudy and windy conidtions acoss the Midlands.

The highest wind gust that was associated with Hurricane Sandy at the Metro Airport was 37 m.p.h. on October 29.

A record high low temperature was set on October 2nd. The low temperature for the day only got down to 74°F.

The average high temperatures will start to fall as we head into November.

The average first freeze is November 5th.
