RICHLAND COUNTY (WACH)-- A tip form Lexington County deputies helped Richland County catch two crooks in action.

Deputies set up surveillance at Columbia Power Sports on Two Notch Road, and saw two men drive a pick up truck into the front of the store.

Investigators say while arresting one man, his friend jumped into the truck driving towards deputies.

In fear for their lives deputies fired at the suspect, striking the truck and the driver.

"The suspect then hits a patrol car, rams into a patrol car and then drives over his accomplice and then backs over his accomplice," said Captain Chris Cowan.

Cowan says after the shots the driver keep going and deputies chased the him down Two Notch Road.

"They actually gave chase he went down the street and he came off of the roadway and went into the building," adds Cowan.

The chase ended at Bakers Sports Pub and Grill.

Deputies say around 3:30am the suspect crashed his car through the restaurant and was discovered dead inside his vehicle.

Restaurant owner Andy Baker is just glad everyone is okay, his last employee clocking out just 20 minutes before the crash.

"This could've been much worse from a lot of standpoints. The deputies were put in harms way, they were forced to do their job, 2 deputies a k-9, As well people could've been in the business and Columbia Powersports as well", concludes Cowan.

Cowan says they've seen a lots of commercial bugarlies throughout the county.

Deputies say both suspects have a lengthy criminal history.

43 year old James Branch is in critical condition after being hit by a vehicle and is facing two counts of attempted murder and 2nd degree burglary.

His accomplice is dead, no word tonight on how he was killed.
