Officer released from hospital after Columbia apartment shooting

One officer was injured in shooting at Brook Pines Apts.

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WACH) - A Columbia police officer is out of the hospital after investigators say a suspect tried to run him down Wednesday afternoon.

It happened around 1PM Wednesday at the Brook Pines apartments on Broad River Road.

Richland County deputies, Columbia police and the South Carolina Law Enforcment Division's Fugitive Task Force were tracking man they say is responsible for two car-jackings in Richland County and the Harbison area.

Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott says the suspect tried to flee and hit one of the Columbia officers.

Lott says officers opened fire, wounding two people inside the car.

"You have three agencies who all have fugitive investigators who work very closely together. They worked as a team, and we had all three agencies out here together trying to arrest this very violent subject," said Lott.

SLED, CPD, and RCSD have all agreed to ask the Lexington County Sheriff's Department to investigate.

The suspects' names have yet to be released. Their condition is not known.
