Official City of Columbia flags lowered in memory of fallen firefighter

City of Columbia officials announced Thursday that the official City of Columbia flag has been lowered at all City buildings for the day in memory of fallen Fire Captain Anthony Charles Moye.

COLUMBIA (WACH) - City of Columbia officials announced Thursday that the official City of Columbia flag has been lowered at all City buildings for the day in memory of fallen Fire Captain Anthony Charles Moye.

"Our deepest condolences go out to the entire Moye family," said City Manager Teresa Wilson.

Funeral services for Moye are being held Thursday in Columbia.

Moye was a Columbia firefighter for 22 years and also served as a Major in the United States Army.

Moye died Sunday night after losing control of his SUV while off-duty.

He will be buried at Fort Jackson National Cemetery.

Wilson says the City flag will be lowered when any City of Columbia employee has passed away to honor those in the City of Columbia family.

"As managers make us aware of the loss of a city employee we will lower the City of Columbia flag in their memory," said Wilson.
