Officials arrest Columbia man wanted in fatal shooting

COLUMBIA (WACH)â??Lexington County Sheriffâ??s Department detectives arrested a 20-year-old Columbia man wanted in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred on February 2 in the parking lot of Cockpit Bar and Grill.

Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts said detectives apprehended Gregory Lamont Brooks, 20, on Farrowood Dr. in Columbia with warrants on charges of Murder, Unlawful Possession of a Handgun by a Person who was convicted of a violent crime that is a felony, and Possession of a Weapon during the Commission of a Violent Crime.

Arrest warrants, which detectives obtained on Monday, April 21, allege that at about 5:50am on February 2, Brooks fatally shoot Brandon E. Ratliff of Brook Pines Dr., Columbia, with a handgun during a verbal dispute in the parking lot of Cockpit Bar and Grill, at Berryhill Road.

Arrests warrants also allege that multiple witnesses identified Brooks as the person who fatally shot Ratliff. Brooks provided detectives with false information concerning his whereabouts at the time of the fatal shooting.

The circumstances of the shooting remain under investigation.

Ratliff was transported in a privately owned motor vehicle to Lexington Medical Center, where Ratliff was pronounced dead.
