Columbia, S.C. (WACH) --The SC State Fair kicked off Wednesday afternoon filled with food, games, and of course, the rides.

The Office of Elevator and Amusement Rides, with the Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation, released some tips for ensuring the safest possible good time while taking part in the many amusement rides the fair has to offer this year.

First and foremost, they stress paying close attention to the posted rules and warnings. They inform on what exactly the ride would entail, along with other information such as knowing what signal indicates it's safe to get up, which health conditions may be triggered by the lights or motions, and so forth.

Other tips released by the department include the following:

*Parents: insure ride is appropriate for your child based on age/weight/height.

*Use safety equipment, such as seat belts, lap bars, etc.

*Keep hands, arms, and legs inside the ride at all times.

*Stay seated until the ride comes to a complete stop.

*If you're frightened by a ride, get the attention of the ride operator to stop the ride.

*Upon entry to and departure from the ride, please be attentive to avoid a trip or fall hazard.

*If the ride operator is inattentive, let a supervisor know.

*Call or test LLR at 803-896-7638 to report an unsafe condition.

*Have fun, but be safe!

According to officials with the fair, 31,000 people showed up for opening day. The SC State Fair ends Sunday, October 22nd.
