IRMO (WACH) -- Officials say two people are left dead and a child is hospitalized after a domestic dispute turned into an apparent murder-suicide in Upper Richland County Wednesday night.
Richland County Coroner Gary Watts says Joann B. Hill and DeShawn Washington both died after the dispute that took place near Freshly Mill and Pet Sties Road in Irmo.
According to Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott, Washington shot Hill and her two-year-old child before turning the gun on himself. Officials say the child is expected to recover.
Deputies say they found Hill on the side of Freshly Mill Road around 10 p.m. They found the child inside a trailer about a half-mile away. They say at one point, Washington took hostages and fired two shots at deputies. None of the deputies were injured.
