Operation Thank You taking cards to send to troops, veterans

COLUMBIA (WACH) - For those looking to show support for the military this Memorial Day weekend, the founder of Operation Thank You says it is as easy as sending a letter.

Volunteers for the organization have been taking thank you cards at Dutch Square Mall all weekend that will be sent to veterans and troops serving overseas.

"It takes just a few minutes to write a message, but that message could be read 50 years from now by someone who gets the card passed down. A lot of veterans will keep these cards. They really become keepsakes," said Brian Bohlman, Founder and Director of Operation Thank You.

This is the eighth annual Operation Thank You event for Memorial Day Weekend. The organization sells patriotic gifts to raise funds to send care packages.

Volunteers will be back out Monday at the AMC Theater in the mall until 2:30 p.m.

"I hope it really lets them know we're here in South Carolina supporting all the people overseas and everything," said Donny Thompson, who stopped to fill out a card.

Notes written this weekend should reach their destination by the Fourth of July.
