Organizers to move Okra Strut

Okra Strut organizers say they'll propose a new venue for the festival by March 1st.

Festival planners are scrambling to find a new site for the annual Irmo Okra Strut.

The parade and festival had been held at the old Winn-Dixie plaza on St. Andrews Road. Officials decided to move after the new owner of the plaza asked they pay a fee to hold the festival there.

"There will be a festival" said Irmo Strut Commission Chairman Jim Holcombe. Holcombe says one option is to have it around the Irmotown Park.

"We will be meeting with a lot of the businesses throughout the area especially those that might be impacted by the actual site ultimately selected." said Holcombe. A final decision on a new venue is expected by March 1st.
