COLUMBIA, SC (WACH) - Palmetto Health Children's Hospital celebrated 30 years of service Monday. Patients and staff were invited, as the hospital acknowledged the strong support of the community and the contributions of its founding physicians.
"What better job can you have than try to help a child, said Caughman Taylor, the Senior Medical Director of the Palmetto Health Children's Hospital. "What keeps us going are the smiles and knowing that we are trying to make a difference."
Palmetto Health has treated more than two million infants, children, and adolescents from across South Carolina.
Caughman Taylor says that over the past 30 years, the hospital has grown from a hospital within a hospital. He adds that the hospital has expanded, specializing in more health care services for children.
"Our pediatric emergency room didn't exist, and now we see about 25,000 children there a year. We provide care to about 85,000 children there a year," said Taylor.
Palmetto Health Childrens Hospital was the first pediatric hospital in South Carolina. The hospital now has more than 200 medical professional skilled in caring for the unique needs of children.
