Palmetto Health to host Infant Mortality Awareness Walk

Infant Mortality Awareness Walk

In recognition of National Infant Mortality Awareness Month in September, Palmetto Health will host its second Infant Mortality Awareness Walk, â??Small Steps to a Healthy Start,â?? on Saturday, September 7th.

The walk will be from 8-10:30am, at Riverfront Park, 312 Laurel St. All proceeds from the 5K walk will support Palmetto Healthy Startâ??s initiative to promote safe sleep, reducing the rate of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS).

Those interested in participating must register by Monday, September 2. Registration costs $12 and includes a free hat.

â??Our efforts will help fund initiatives that help moms have healthy, full-term pregnancies.â?? Said Lyntavia Archie, Palmetto Healthy Start Community Advocate. â??Itâ??s important to do everything we can to improve the health outcomes for this vulnerable population.â??

Palmetto Health also invites parents who have experienced pregnancy loss or early infant loss to attend the support group â??Wee Rememberâ??. The group meets 6:30-8pm on the fourth Thursday of each month in Palmetto Health Baptistâ??s Pastoral Counseling Seminar Room.

Palmetto Healthy Start is a member of the National Healthy Start Initiative and is operated through a federally funded grant received by Palmetto Health.

Palmetto Healthâ??s mission is to reduce infant mortality, the number of low birth-weight babies and other health disparities in Richland, Fairfield, Lexington, and Sumter counties through education and outreach.
