Coroner identifies victim of early Friday morning accident on I-26

Part of Interstate 26 partially blocked due to accident in Richland County

COLUMBIA, SC (WACH) – Richland County Coroner Gary Watts has identified the person killed in an early morning, single-vehicle accident Friday.

According to Watts, Bret Lee Antonucci was ejected from his vehicle after his vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree. Antonucci wasn't wearing a seat belt.

Lance Cpl. David Jones said the accident happened I-26 eastbound near Bush River Road in Richland County around 5:30 a.m.

The left lane is blocked and there's stop-and-go traffic. Traffic is also backed up to the Ballentine exit. Highway patrol asks drivers to use caution in the area.

South Carolina Highway Patrol continues to investigate the incident.
