SUMTER (WACH) - Shaw Air Force Base in Sumter was on lockdown Monday.
Base officials say around noon, there was a "perceived threat" and Fighter Wing Security Forces took precautionary measures to secure the base.
Security forces established security around several buildings and established a perimeter that has been cleared.
Shaw Air Force Base Officials say no shots were fired and no one was injured. Leaders say they take security and the safety of the airmen as a top priority.
The lockdown has social media buzzing. A base spokesperson said that at this time they cannot confirm any of the reports seen on social media, but they are taking safety measures to keep all their airmen safe.
