Playground to be named in honor of slain Bennettsville girl

Marlboro County, S.C. (WPDE) — The Pee Dee Coalition plans to create a playground at New Beginnings Transitional Shelter in Marlboro County, near Wallace, in memory of 8-year-old Iyana Lowery, according to the Coalition.

Iyana Lowery was found dead ten days after she was reported missing following the murder of her mom at home on Craig circle in Bennettsville. Jejuancey Harrington is charged with killing the child and her mother Ella Lowery.

A makeshift memorial with flowers and ballons now rest at the bridge near McColl where the girl's body was found.

Coalition officials said you can help by donating gifts for Iyana's Playground.

Gifts can be made online or sent to Pee Dee Coalition at P.O. Box 1351, Florence, SC 29503.

Iyana Lowery is set to be laid to rest on Saturday at 11 a.m. at Saw Mill Baptist Church in Bennettsville.
