COLUMBIA (WACH / AP) â??The Columbia Police Department is conducting a death investigation where the victim may have been dragged down a street.
According to CPD spokesman Jennifer Timmons, the incident occurred Sunday night shortly before 10 p.m. in the area of Earlwood Drive and River Drive.
Timmons said that initial information suggests that a car hit the male victim, and dragged him for a â??significant distance.â??
A witness told WACH-Fox that â??every street has their problems, and this day we were all just outside. It was all over something senseless.â??
Interim Police Chief Ruben Santiago said Monday authorities were seeking a blue or silver Dodge minivan with a white trailer.
Authorities said a man in his early 50s died after being dragged more than 1,500 feet Sunday night. Police say the man was standing between the van and trailer and arguing about a cellphone with a second man an hour earlier.
Witnesses said a third person tried to break up the fight, then climbed into the van and drove away. The two others were trapped. One was dragged and died. The other got away and was treated at a hospital.
The names of the people involved in the incident have not been released.
Police investigators are working leads in the case, and if you have any information, please contact Crime Stoppers at 1-888-CRIME SC.
